Italy is the fourth European market for Oman featuring a constant growth in arrivals

Oman Tourism Office took part to TTG Incontri trade exhibition in Rimini on 18 - 20 October 2012, counting a 50.685 professionals attendance (+4% compared to 2011) an appointment of great importance to develop new synergies and let Italian trade representatives collect updated information about the Sultanate through the Tourism Office presence and one-to-one meetings.

Together with Oman Tourism Office, 6 key protagonists of Omani tourism industry – the DMC Mark Tours, Khasab Tours and Muscat holidays and the hotels The Chedi Muscat, InterContinental Muscat and Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah resort & SPA - met Italian tour operators, travel agents, incentive houses and representatives of the Italian press at TTG Incontri.

Overall results of attendance to Oman booth were fairly good: 20 journalists, 255 travel agents and 23 travel trade operators attended the booth to seek for information during the 3 days of exhibition. Oman map, brochures, bags and gadgets were given to them together with information about the Sultanate, news and updates about events and new products.

“After only 2 years from the opening of the Italian office, Italy is the 4th European market in terms of arrivals for Oman, after UK, Germany and France. Italian arrivals in Oman in 2011 were 15.179, featuring a considerable growth: +77% vs 2010. This trend continues in 2012: a +38% increase vs 2011 has been registered with 7,103 arrivals from Italy from January to May, and up to today 74 Tour Operators feature Oman in Italy (+80.5% on 2010) together with 5 OLTAs.” declared Rania Khodr, director of the Tourism Office of The Sultanate of Oman for Italy, France and Suisse Romande “We are glad to have taken part to Italy’s most renowned B2B exhibition with a delegation of important partners to encounter tour operators and travel agents, thus creating new opportunities of business and consolidating the bond between Italy and Oman. Our great results and the enthusiastic response of the distribution encourage us to renew our commitment to the market, on which we are happy to invest on in order to incentive more and more Italians to visit the Sultanate in every time of the year.”

The participation to TTG Incontri was a great occasion to update Italian trade industry and press about the activities of Oman Tourism Office and the further developments in terms of accommodation and infrastructures in Oman. In 2012-2013, for instance, the opening of some new hotel units all over the Sultanate regions will let the destination reach a total of 14,500 rooms across the Sultanate. The development of these new hotels will be pursued together with the launch of new tourist destinations in the Sultanate such as Hajjar massif and Salalah.

By the end of next year, as a matter of fact, the new openings on the majestic Omani mountains will be several, including Dianna Point Hotel, Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Akhdar Resort in Jabal Ahkdar area; and Sunrise Resort Jabal Asar’h in Jebel Shams. These will be typical and cozy resorts, offering an incomparable view and various sport activities, especially for those who love mountains and want to discover the soul of Oman.

Salalah region, in Dhofar, will present the development of the tourist complex of Salalah Beach, which is currently under construction along a beach, within walking distance from Salalah, capital of the Dhofar region. A few months ago the opening of its first structure was done: Juweira boutique hotel.

Muscat, entitled of the prestigious label of Arab Tourism Capital for 2012, will benefit in the next future of other developments, such as the new congress center near the airport in Muscat. The new Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, whose opening is scheduled for 2015-2016, and that will include 4 hotels, for a total of 1,000 rooms. The center will have 14 meeting rooms which can accommodate from 70 to 360 people theater, dance halls that can accommodate up to 2,300 people theater-style or 1,350 people for gala dinners, and can be divided into smaller rooms and acoustically isolated, and an auditorium that can accommodate up to 3,200 people for a total exhibition space of 22,000 sqm.

Moreover, the new terminal at Muscat International Airport will be completed by 2014 and will have an overall capacity of 12 million passengers a year. Further expansions are provided in three successive stages, to increase the capacity of the airport progressively from 24, to 36 and 48 million passengers.
