Oman participates in the World Tourism Market exhibition held in London

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) took part in the 37th World Tourism Market (WTM) that took place in London from 6th to 8th November. The event hosted almost 5,000 organizations and participants around the globe, of which 20 were Omani organizations. Keen to take part of the 2nd biggest travel and tourism exhibition in the world annually. The Sultanate's delegation was spearheaded by H.E Maitha Bint Saif Al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary of the MoT.

World Tourism Market 2017
H.E Maitha Bint Saif Al Mahrouqi said: “The MoT is keen to participate in the WTM year on year, as it provides a number of activities, forums, and discussion panels that offer a closer look into the trends and updates in the tourism sector. The event gathers tourism experts and specialists under one roof, and is a great platform to promote Oman as a unique tourism destination in the European market.” 
She added: “the European tourism market is one of the crucial markets that the Sultanate is striving to target through its strategic plans. The number of European tourists who visited Oman during 2016 is 4,01,784; while the number of tourists visiting Oman from the UK in October 2017 has reached 98,556. These statistics are a reflection of the tremendous efforts made by the MoT to promote Oman on a global scale; and attract more international tourists to enjoy our distinctive tourism activities around the year.” 
Her Excellency also praised the role played by organizations in the tourism sector that participated in the exhibition; and helped develop and activate new tourism programs. 

The private sector‘s vital participation 
20 companies, namely tourism facilities, hotels participated at the WTM this year including: Al Faiha Tours under the Royal Affairs Court, Sama Hotel in Jabal Al Akhdar, Mark Tours, Al Zahraa Travel and Tourism, Shangri La Barr Al Jissah, OAMC, Bahwan Travel, Oman Companies and Hotels group, Anantara Jabal Akhdar, Al Watania Travel and Tourism, Magic Arabia, Crown Plaza, Khimjis Travel and Tourism, Shangri La Hotels and Resorts, Al Baleed Resort Salalah, The Chedi Muscat, Oman Royal Opera House, Arabian Experience Office, and Golden Tulip.  

The exhibition’s agenda  
The first day of the exhibition witnessed a number of gatherings and official meetings that were held in the Sultanate’s pavilion, involving international governmental delegations, investors, businessmen, and travel and tourism companies. 
During the 3 days of the exhibition - 80 workshops were organized that tackled a number of issues encompassing a variety of topics in the tourism sector, such as aviation, hotels, weddings, honeymoon plans, the art of cooking, sports tourism, responsible tourism, and the role of social media and travel technology were organised. 
London's WTM is one of the most highly anticipated international events as it is known for offering opportunities to meet with the world's leading tourism experts, discussing the latest trends and updates in the tourism industry, and offering the chance for business relationships. The exhibition also offers the chance to attract tourism investment from around the world.  WTM sees the participation of nearly 50,000 visitors each year, offering more than 300,000 connection opportunities for the participants. 

Attracting international tourism 
It is worth to mention that the Sultanate aims to attract the European tourism markets by participating in the WTM, as the Sultanate is witnessing the final stages of its infrastructure projects such as the new Muscat International Airport, Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, Oman Cultural Complex, as well as expanding its airlines, transport and communication network.
